The cc-switch GUI is built on Tauri 2, and on stripped-down or older Windows environments, some Linux distributions (AppImage especially), and macOS 11.x, it often shows a white window, no styling, or a process with no window at all. Maintainers have repeatedly attributed this to Tauri 2 demanding a recent OS and suggested the CLI build. But on Fedora users found a source build runs fine while only the AppImage goes white, so some argue it is an AppImage packaging problem; maintainers later looked into packaging and shipped rpm/Flatpak packages in v3.9.0.

By platform: on Windows 11 you see a process and no window after launch — one user solved it with Windows 7 compatibility in the properties, while another reported no effect, and a third found it opened after removing some x64 C++ runtimes and broke again after reinstalling them. On Linux, the AppImage reports EGL_BAD_PARAMETER or simply goes white, reported on both Fedora 42 and 43. On macOS 11.x the main window is entirely white or unstyled, the missing styling being tied to tailwind v4 requiring Safari 16.4 / macOS 11.7.4 or newer.

Fix

  1. Windows: right-click cc-switch.exe → Properties → Compatibility → tick "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 7". This comes from user reports and does not work on every machine.

  2. Linux AppImage white screen: upgrade to v3.9.0+ and use the rpm or Flatpak package instead; running a source build is also reported to work.

  3. macOS white screen on an older system: try updating macOS to 11.7.4 / Safari 16.4 or newer first. If you cannot update, use the CLI build.

  4. A stopgap available on every platform: use cc-switch-cli. On macOS run brew install cc-switch-cli; for other platforms see https://github.com/SaladDay/cc-switch-cli.
