orphaned [model_providers.*] table: official Codex card switch
Quick fix
After switching to the official Codex OAuth card, no confirmed fix exists; only clean engine-generated provider tables with no remaining references.
Symptom
Section titled “Symptom”Switching from a third-party Codex provider whose stored config carries `model_provider = "custom"` + a `[model_providers.custom]` table to the **official OAuth card** clears the top-level `model_provider` key but leaves the `[model_providers.custom]` table in `~/.codex/config.toml` with no remaining reference:When switching to the official OAuth card, the top-level `model_provider` key is cleared, but the former third-party provider's `[model_providers.custom]` table remains in `~/.codex/config.toml`. Without `model_provider` pointing to that table, Codex ignores it.
The leftover table may contain an outdated `base_url`, a managed-token placeholder, or real direct-connection credentials. The issue suggests deleting only tables projected by the write engine for managed providers and no longer referenced; tables such as old user-written aliases should remain. This suggestion has not been confirmed or merged.
This open issue does not currently provide confirmed user-side fix steps. After switching to the official OAuth card, first check whether `~/.codex/config.toml` contains `[model_providers.*]` tables not referenced by `model_provider`.
Do not delete user-written provider tables solely because they are unreferenced; the issue's suggested cleanup scope is limited to projection tables generated by the write engine for managed providers.
