{"models":[]}: Codex OpenAI official proxy model catalog is empty
Quick fix
Temporarily place the Codex-format catalog file inside CODEX_HOME and reference it in config.toml; the official proxy forwarding fix is unconfirmed.
Symptom
Section titled “Symptom”{"models":[]}The local model catalog handler in CC Switch 3.20.4 reads only the CC Switch-managed catalog file referenced in the configuration; if no such file is configured, it returns HTTP 200 with an empty catalog. As a result, models available to the official account may not appear, and Codex falls back to its built-in model list. The report says this issue is reproducible on both macOS and Windows.
Temporary workaround: place the Codex-format model catalog file inside CODEX_HOME, name it cc-switch-model-catalog.json, and reference that file in the Codex configuration. A Windows user verified this workaround; the catalog file must include the required models.
~/.codex/config.toml model_catalog_json = "C:/Users/<user>/.codex/cc-switch-model-catalog.json"
Affected Versions

Section titled “Source Issues”This page is distilled from 1 real issues
- Why don't models available to my official OpenAI account appear in the Codex model selector?
- The local proxy may return an empty model catalog, after which Codex uses its built-in model list. Models available to the account but missing from the built-in list may therefore not appear.
- What requirements must `model_catalog_json` meet?
- A Windows reproduction showed that the referenced file must exist, be located inside CODEX_HOME, and have the exact filename cc-switch-model-catalog.json; if any requirement is unmet, the interface still returns an empty catalog.
- Has this temporary workaround been verified?
- A Windows user reported that after placing the Codex-format catalog in an allowed directory and referencing it, the interface returned 11 models and Codex refreshed its model cache.
