Unable to switch Codex App to API access mode

Quick fix

Upgrade to CC Switch 4.0 or the latest version, then switch to a third-party provider and sign out of Codex App.

After signing out, Codex App stays on the login screen and cannot skip it.

Cause

The issue occurred in CC Switch v3.16.1. The maintainer said CC Switch 4.0 rewrote how Codex switching works: it replaces only key fields such as the address, Key, and model. Third-party Keys are written only to the provider table in config.toml; auth.json is no longer modified. Official ChatGPT login details are temporarily stored locally and restored automatically when switching back to the official provider. The login toggle in the configuration is also set based on whether auth.json actually contains a login, to prevent Codex App from getting stuck on the login screen.

The maintainer closed the issue without receiving reports that reproduced the problem on the latest version, so the issue does not confirm whether upgrading resolved it.

Fix

  1. Upgrade to CC Switch 4.0 or the latest version, then retry the original steps: turn off “Keep official login when switching to a third party,” delete the OpenAI Official provider, switch to a third party, then sign out of Codex App. If it still remains on the login screen, provide the CC Switch version, Codex app version, and the model_providers section from ~/.codex/config.toml, with the Key redacted.
