cc-switch installation failure: dependency conflict, insufficient permissions, and antivirus false positives
Quick fix
On older Linux, use a community build for missing dependencies; on Windows, install to AppData if permissions are insufficient;
Symptom
Section titled “Symptom”cc-switch : 依赖: libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0 但无法安装它cc-switch: Dependency: libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0, but it cannot be installed.
Installation failures for cc-switch have different causes on different operating systems, but they are variations of the same installation problem.
On Linux (such as Ubuntu 20.04), cc-switch is built with Tauri 2 and has relatively demanding system requirements. The official .deb package depends on libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0, which may not be available on older systems. The AppImage also requires GLIBC 2.32–2.35, while Ubuntu 20.04 supports only up to 2.31; forcibly upgrading system-wide GLIBC carries significant risk. On Windows, installing to system directories such as C:\Program Files may result in insufficient permissions to modify cc-switch.exe. On systems such as Windows Server, system policies may instead report “Installation is forbidden.” In addition, antivirus software in some Windows environments may incorrectly flag CC-Switch-v3.11.1-Windows.msi as Trojan:Script/Wacatac.H!ml.
For Linux dependency conflicts or an outdated GLIBC version: do not force an upgrade of system-wide GLIBC. Use a community build for older Ubuntu versions, or try the cc-switch-cli command-line version.
社区编译版地址 # https://github.com/suwenqiang/ccswitch-ubuntu20# CLI 版本地址# https://github.com/SaladDay/cc-switch-cliIf Windows reports insufficient permissions to modify cc-switch.exe: since v3.4.0, the default installation directory has been AppData\Local. Select that default directory during installation to avoid the permissions issue.
推荐安装路径 # AppData\LocalIf Windows Server reports “系统管理员设置了系统策略,禁止进行此安装”: this is caused by system policy. For now, use the installation-free portable version (绿色版).
# 使用便携版替代 MSI 安装包If Windows antivirus incorrectly flags Trojan:Script/Wacatac.H!ml: this is a false positive that occurs in rare cases. You can try compiling from source yourself.

- What should I do if installing the AppImage on Ubuntu 20.04 reports version `GLIBC_2.35' not found?
- Ubuntu 20.04 has an outdated GLIBC version (up to 2.31), while cc-switch requires 2.32–2.35. A system-wide GLIBC upgrade is risky and not recommended. Use a community build for Ubuntu 20.04 or the CLI version.
- What should I do if Windows says I don't have permission to modify cc-switch.exe during installation?
- The C:\Program Files directory requires specific permissions. Since v3.4.0, the default installation directory has been AppData\Local; installing there resolves the issue.
- What should I do if installing the MSI on Windows Server 2022 reports “系统管理员设置了系统策略,禁止进行此安装”?
- This is caused by a system policy, and currently there is no direct fix. For now, use the installation-free portable version (绿色版).
- What should I do if antivirus software flags the Windows installer as Trojan:Script/Wacatac.H!ml?
- A false positive may occur in rare cases. You can try compiling from source yourself.
