Custom configuration overwritten before extraction: Claude Code
Quick fix
In 4.0, switching providers after upgrading preserves plugins, hooks, permissions, and other content in settings.json.

The issue reported that, when editing a provider, a generic configuration fragment was merged into the form before extraction from the already-overwritten content, preventing custom values from being extracted. The maintainer replied that 4.0 removed generic configuration fragments. When switching providers, it replaces only key fields such as the address, key, and model, while preserving other content in settings.json unchanged. Therefore, this timing issue does not occur in 4.0.
A later comment reported a separate, earlier-stage case: the stored configuration may overwrite settings.json on disk before extraction. The comment did not confirm that the 4.0 explanation resolves this case.
The maintainer recommends upgrading to 4.0. When switching providers, settings.json content such as plugins, hooks, and permissions is preserved.

- After upgrading to 4.0, will plugin and skill configurations be lost when switching providers?
- The maintainer says that switching providers in 4.0 preserves other content in settings.json, including plugins, hooks, and permissions; the comment does not mention skill separately.
