input_modalities contains only text: Codex cannot read images
Quick fix
Manually adding image to input_modalities reportedly enables image recognition, but switching models resets it. No verifiable lasting solution is available.
Symptom
The "input_modalities“ field in cc-switch-model-catalog.json requires manually adding image for image recognition. It is currently not written correctly when fetching the model list. Switching back to gpt and then back to deepseek refreshes cc-switch-model-catalog.json again, leaving only text and preventing cdoex from reading images.
A user running Codex on Windows with cc-switch 3.20.0 reported that input_modalities in the model catalog for deepseek-v4-flash-vision-exp did not correctly include image. Adding image manually enabled image recognition, but switching back to gpt and then back to deepseek refreshed cc-switch-model-catalog.json. input_modalities then contained only text again, preventing Codex from reading images.
The original thread does not explain the internal cause of the reset. The issue is closed, but the supplied content contains no maintainer confirmation, fixed version, or lasting solution. Its closed status does not establish that it was fixed.
As a temporary workaround reported by the user, add image to the input_modalities list for deepseek-v4-flash-vision-exp in cc-switch-model-catalog.json. The original thread provides only the filename, not its directory.
// cc-switch-model-catalog.json"input_modalities": ["text""text","image"],Check this field after switching back to gpt and then back to deepseek. The reporter says this resets it to text only, so the temporary change may need to be reapplied.
The original thread provides no verifiable lasting solution. Follow the source issue for further details; do not treat its closed status as confirmation of a fix.
