Conversations gone after switching to another provider in Codex
Quick fix
Switch back to the provider used when the sessions were created to view their history; there is no confirmed fix for syncing sessions across providers.
Symptom
Section titled “Symptom”切换为另一个之后对话都没有了All conversations are gone after switching to another one
Codex groups sessions by provider. After switching to another provider, sessions under the original provider may not be visible, so it looks like the conversation history has disappeared.
The current implementation is described as a one-way migration/restore: when unified sessions are enabled, sessions migrate from "openai" to "custom", and they are restored when it is disabled. Sessions created in the other group during the switch or after migration may remain in the original group and stay invisible. The claim that providers with the same name can share sessions comes from user feedback; no confirmed general fix has been reported.
Switch back to the provider used when those sessions were originally created, and check whether the conversation history reappears.
If you need to share sessions between official OpenAI and a custom provider, there is no confirmed sync or migration fix in the input issues; keep the relevant sessions and watch for future implementation changes.
Affected Versions
Section titled “Affected Versions”Source Issues
Section titled “Source Issues”This page is distilled from 3 real issues
- Can sessions be shared when switching between a custom provider and official openai?
- There is no confirmed two-way sharing solution in the input issues; sessions may be invisible on the other side due to provider grouping.
- Should I import and export the most recent sessions every time I switch?
- The input issues do not provide confirmed working import/export steps, so this cannot be treated as a fix.
